INSEAD the business school for the world

Remembering Patrick Turner: Generous, Kind, and Inspiring

We are deeply saddened to inform you that Patrick Turner (MBA'78), our beloved Professor of Entrepreneurship, passed away in Singapore on the 12th of September at the age of 66.

Patrick was central in developing entrepreneurship teaching at INSEAD. He will be remembered by all of us as the man who created INSEAD's most popular class, 'Your First 100 Days', as well as co-created its companion class 'Realising Entrepreneurial Potential' and the integrative class 'Entrepreneurial Leadership'. All those who went through these courses came away with a profound sense of accomplishment and empowerment for the rest of their business careers.

Through years of teaching these classes with unparalleled success, he has given knowledge, skills, and inspiration to thousands of INSEAD MBAs. His interest and engagement went well beyond the classroom. Patrick had an open door policy and his day apart from teaching would include meeting alumni, students and almost anyone who wanted advice on topics that were entrepreneurship related. He formed extensive contacts with the Singapore entrepreneur and venture financing community, and acted as a judge in competitions at INSEAD and elsewhere.

Patrick was a big man both in heart and in stature.  He had a larger than life personality with a sense of humour to match. People always knew that he meant well in everything he said.

He loved classical music, and enjoyed helping non-profits through judging in several competitions, including Project Inspire.

Equally important was Patrick's contribution to our INSEAD family. We certainly lose a great figure of our community internally and externally.

Professor Patrick Turner leaves behind three children: Catherine, Stephan and Andrew and his partner of 9 years Harbans Kaur.
